Einstein And The Prophecy

Dear Reader,

We have just been made aware of the United Nations report on the state of Climate Change from their perspective, and it's a daunting picture. But it's a picture that the world knew of decades before, is it not? Many ignored the indicators that were clear back then.

In 1975 I came to a realisation about what was happening and started to make adjustments to my life. In 2013, in my 70th year, I wrote a book. It was the culmination of many years of observation on how the world was developing, combined with a proposed philosophy (born out of no little experience) to meet the situation that existed.

The book included, near its beginning, the following quotes from Albert Einstein, famous for his theories on physics but also a philosopher in his own right.
The quotations are all to do with Man releasing himself from 'the prison'  in which Man has put himself:

A human being is a part of a whole, called by us ‘universe’, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

The release of atom power has changed everything except our way of thinking...the solution to this problem lies in the heart of mankind.

A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no [formalist] religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.

True religion is real living; living with all one's soul, with all one's goodness and righteousness.

One should guard against inculcating a young man {or woman} with the idea that success is the aim of life, for a successful man normally receives from his peers an incomparably greater portion than the services he has been able to render them deserve. The value of a man resides in what he gives and not in what he is capable of receiving.

This is all in the context of the world situation as it was becoming in 2013, a situation that has surely since become more extreme, particularly with COVID, immigration problems and further extreme weather conditions. As I had said then, in the book:

For decades now we have been aware of ecological and global warming issues and yet we have not implemented proper corrective procedures, despite summit meetings between the world’s major trading participants.

For more than a decade the tensions in the Middle East have increased enormously and the so-called ‘Arab Spring’ movements do not show signs of desirable results as the revolutionary movements show a lack of unity.

The Western finance houses have shown lack of moral fibre and, while scooping considerable rewards for themselves, have helped the world into a financial crisis.

So-called democratic governments around the world have also shown lack of moral fibre in not addressing major issues for fear of losing the next election. Corruption is present in many governments and their members stretch the rules to find all the ways by which they can line their pockets.

Many have forgotten what food is for. Shouldn’t we eat to live rather than live to eat? The West wastes far too much food.

Meanwhile, those in poverty (perhaps through disablement) are betrayed. Others are told to find non-existent jobs.

Eight years later, today, the west is withdrawing from its commitment in the Middle East, wasting 20 years of misguided war and terrible loss of life, combined with its own effect on Climate Change and achieving nothing in terms of reaching hearts and minds. And it generated a huge refugee problem. And only now are we made to feel that we are supposed to do something drastic to change matters with regard to the Climate - at the last minute, as it were.

Where has wisdom gone to? Our materialistically and scientifically-indoctrinated leadership is left wanting and, while countries such as Madagascar are suffering appallingly through Climate Change (their condition is almost unknown because of the news given over to floods and forest fires in 'developed' countries), our leaders seem to carry on with their economic planning as though just changing technology is the answer to everything.

Technology is by no means the solution whilst our economic model is geared towards growth. Rather nations should be looking at how to stem our growth needs to a realistic consumption pattern, but that the world leaders will not do - yet. They will realise the truth only when disaster is even more close at hand and when the super-rich have (perhaps) flown off to other planets to escape what has been created by misinformation and greed.

However, we need to live as one, so what is the common ingredient we can all understand and which can bring us all together and create a realistic future? It is, as demonstrated by the likes of Satish Kumar, to find ways to live that are peaceful, responsible and in harmony with our environment. It is to find compassion for everything that is around us. To realise - through compassion and experience - how everything is interlinked.

There is hope. And there is real hope because underlying all the suffering, justice is waiting to be implemented.

There are, of course, many who already strive to do good works through compassion and promote understanding, but perhaps there needs to be a greater all-round effort.

In this world, there are beings that live in supreme peace and know the truth, and wait for as many as possible of the mainstream of mankind to wake up to the fact that there's more to life than making money, eating, sleeping, clubbing, and football. Indeed, more to life than being absorbed in family life.
