Just like a film director - he shouts "Cut!"

Our Chancellor of the Exchequer has spoken! Amongst other things he has declared:
Britain is home to 1 per cent of the world’s population; generates 4 per cent of the world’s economy; and yet pays out 7 per cent of all the welfare spending. This is not sustainable - so we have set out a package to save £12 billion from welfare so we better protect spending on public services.
Since when did a proportionately higher rate of welfare spending than anyone else mean that (simply according to its size) it has to be cut back? How about testing the need for it instead, by fair means?

Admittedly it does need careful control (where possible) as we know there are abuses of 'the system', but in time of a severe cut-back, many - primarily children and young people - will suffer in the change-over. We are supposed to be an advanced nation but it seems we would prefer to vote in a government that would exert its power over the vulnerable instead of making the taxation system more fair, with everyone paying their rightful dues.

But what is particularly laughable is that the 12bn of welfare cuts were never considered to be a real election promise as the Tories didn't think they'd be in power - they thought they'd be in another coalition and would have to sizeably reduce their figure to something like 3bn in order to support a workable government!

So, again the rich and the tax evaders get off virtually scot-free - leaving any suffering on the backs of those who can least sustain it.

The Chancellor finished his speech today stating that his budget proves their commitment to 'One Nation' polices. Well, when the true cost of his latest budget is found out (like the affect of the bedroom tax), we'll see, Mr. Chancellor, as to who of the poorest feel that there is a One Nation that you boast of. But you won't listen to the protests anyhow.

And the imposition of just 1% yearly increases in pay for the public sector will mean some form of protest. The forthcoming workers' demonstrations will cause him to decide to spend on water cannon, I'm sure!

The people have one powerful weapon left at their disposal, and that is sincere prayer. The next few years will be testing times, but these years will also be an opportunity to find our true selves. Our Faith will be the rock on which we must stand.

Postscript (July 9): It has been confirmed that those lowest paid and with children will be severely affected, some to the tune of hundreds of pounds per year. This is not an acceptable situation in my view. Some 'One Nation' policy this is!
